| Played with a local band | Taught English in a village school | Visited the home of Hari Krishna | Enjoyed all sorts of different transport |
Then we flew from Kolkata to Bodhgaya and trekked across northern India to holy cities and hill stations from Bodhgaya to Amritsar overland. There is lots more about our travels on that link
But we did not see the Dalai Lama - his side-kick said we were not important enough. We give him fair warning that next time he is in Moraira, we will not be granting him an audience with us.

| A few decent afternoon teas. This overlooking Dalai Lama;s home | This one had the full three tiers, always goes down well with us | And the Taj in Lucknow made us a Diwali treat | But this street food was too much even for us |

| Tea with a Nawab in Lucknow | And with a Maharajah in Shimla | This is as near as we got to the Dalai Lama - a photo, but as good as the real thing | Beware Varanasi - They burn 100 bodies a day here |

| The Viceroy was out when we called round to his Lodge | The Shimla Toy Train was a let down - dirty windows | The Padres went to the Golden without us | Nor were we allowed to visit the Amritsar massacre site |

| We could not join the masons: we had no trouser legs to roll up | At last the pollution lifted and we saw the Himalayas | And at the Wagah Gate we were impressed by the noise .. | ..and the fierce Indian soldiers goose stepping up and down |

Homeward bound
Enough time to slim down a bit before heading to Taiwan & the Philippines for an expedition cruise on the Coral Geographer
