| Boarded the Silversea charter jet to Puerto Williams | The Captain invited us to the cockpit to help him fly the plane | We went back to our seat and had another Pisco Sour | We flew over Ushuaia and on to Puerto Williams |
We boarded the Silver Cloud at Puerto Williams, somewhat traumatised as the padres had left us in a locker aboard the aircraft. But frantic telephone calls resulted in us being rescued and transported to reception on the ship. Phew, were the padres relieved.

| An old friend, we invited him to dine with us | A day or so later, we got to the Falklands | At the first stop it involved a long trek, so the padres took a jeep | These two both look fierce to us |

| Our first penguins | Makes you (almost) proud to be (almost) British | The islanders knew we liked buns, and laid this on | The other punters were impressed when we drove the Zodiac |

![]() |
| Turns out that there were lots of penguins here | everywhere we looked - Penguins | Penguins having a chat | Penguins having a play |

| We get marzipans and chocolates | Good plate of buns for breakfast - we ate most of them | She thinks Orange Juice is better for us | We arrived at the Falklands |

| ..not just a few penguins, but millions of the things | ..they filled all available space. We were penguined out | We got back on board and dined with Kevin and Adrian | Next up was Stromness where Shackleton reached safety |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| Stromness is too dangerous to enter | Megan was here to make sure we stayed out | But we saw a lot of rusty old iron | We went on to Grytviken |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| It was a bright sunny day | Here we visited Shackleton's grave | and saw rusting old boats | and another rusting boat. Worse then old stones |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| A copy of Shackleton's boat. Don't think we would have made it | Our last stop in South Georgia was at Salisbury Plain | We never knew penguins could swim | These ones were waiting their turn to go into the water |

| Help. frightened that the zodiac to the ship was in dense fog | We were exhausted after all that exploring | And a decent buffet is something we never turn down | Wonder if she will share that with us |

![]() |
![]() |
|
| We are all waiting for the barman to take our order | The Staff Captain was not very chatty. He did not like small bears | But Martin did like small bears - we like Martin |
We took a few days to get to the Tristan da Cunha group of islands - Gough , Inaccessible, Nightingale and Tristan
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| We go for a trip round Gough | ..and spot a effalump seal | Effalump seal in the water | Not more penguins |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| We spotted some old stones padres should like that | We organised a tour of the kitchen, but where was the food | Are we expected to share the marzipan's, Pembroke ? | More penguins at Nightingale. Whar hairdos ! |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| They must grow penguins here | This chaps life jacket just suddenly inflated, not our fault | The infamous climb up Nightingale that the madre decided .. | ..to skip as it looked too daunting |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| They seem to be moving in on us, Somerville | We landed at Tristan. They sell their isolation | The harbour was not very big | The Tristan ladies did a lot of knitting on dark winter nights |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| I think we will skip visiting the school | Mind you it did have playground, complete with slide | The not very grand home of the British Administrator | They do have a police station. Best not blow raspberries |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| Tristan is a long way from anywhere | Not many potatoes are planted these days | The padres were knackered from walking, so it was the bus back | They bought themselves sweaters, claimed there were none our size |
Between Tristan and Cape Town there were end of term festivities on the ship
