We flew from Liwonde, overnighted at Dar es Salaam, and then kangaroo hopped to Kuru airstrip in Tarangire National Park

air1 air2 air6
on a wee aircraft, and we were just behind the pilot for 2 of the hops . What fun!
air3 air4 air5
We changed planes in Zanzibar, and then again in Arusha, a real tourist hub

Met Nassor in his jeep, had a picnic lunch at the airstrip ( but were scheduled a civilized lunch at the Swala Sanctuary Hotel), before heading out on a game drive.

We had a special pouch in the jeep, but were often let out. All quite exciting- but no TIGERS!!

Got to the Swala Sanctuary around 5. Quite impressed apart from the bee infested swimming pool -above

A lovely cabana, deluxe inside, and a good setting for a barbecue, albeit prepared far too early! Very pleasant lounge/bar area, usually devoid of staff!

Good breakfast, though a monkey stole a yoghurt . Also a delicious, civilized lunch

Next day off to Ngorongoro via Manyara National Park

Our tent in Ngorongoro Farmhouse, aptly named Simba. Us by the pool- watching the madre swim. Another of our 'close-ups' - here to buffalo - and what a lion!
ngo6 ngo7 ngo8 ngo9 ngo10 ngo12
Lots more game, but needed a lunch break: good moment for more photos, even one with Nassor. Then a 'close-up' with an ostrich

And our last, and longest, stay was up in the north of Serengeti, at a Mara under Canvas Camp - not up to our high expectations!!

mara1 mara2 mara3 mara4 mara5
Quiet picnic spot early on in the 10 hour drive: broke down 1k from the end. Interesting sites en route!. No welcome at the camp, though tent was fine
mara6 mara7 mara8 mara9 mara10
Witnessed several migrations of wildebeest- after waiting, patiently?. for hours . Picnic boxes not up to much!

mara15 mara16 mara17 mara18
A dead elephant and myriads of vultures made a change. And yet another lion!

mara19 mara20 mara23
And one migration had many zebra- usually only a few. The padre recovering from food poisoning,
